How to Service AR RSV4G40 Check Valves & V-Packings
Low pressure or pulsating hoses indicate worn check valves or blown V-packings. Follow this rapid field service procedure:
Unscrew 6 Hex Valve Plugs
Using a 22mm socket or wrench, remove the three top discharge valve caps and three bottom intake valve caps from the brass manifold. Catch any dripping water.
Inspect O-Rings, Springs & Poppets
Use needle-nose pliers to pull each plastic cage assembly out. Inspect for cracked plastic cages, broken conical springs, or debris lodged in the stainless steel valve seat.
Insert New Valves with O-Ring Grease
Coat new check valve O-rings with silicone grease. Seat the 6 replacement valve assemblies squarely into the brass bores and torque brass valve caps to 33 ft-lbs.
Inspect Sight Glass for Milky Emulsion

A pulsating output hose or pressure drop is almost always caused by a stuck or broken check valve in the manifold head. Debris (such as sand from an un-filtered garden hose) prevents one of the 6 check valves from closing, causing cavitation and vibration.
How does the EZ-Start valve work on AR pumps?
The EZ-Start valve built into the AR Mini-Matic unloader automatically relieves water head pressure when you pull the engine recoil starter rope. Once the engine catches and RPM passes 2000, water flow snaps the valve closed to establish full system pressure.
What oil should I use in my AR RSV4G40 pump?
Use AR special pump oil or any premium non-detergent SAE 30W / ISO 68 hydraulic oil. Fill to the middle of the red dot on the oil level sight glass (approximately 15.2 oz / 0.45 L).
